“Berkeley, let your actions reflect your stated values. Truly support sustainable food systems and engaged learning for your students and the community by using this public land for the public good. Farm land is for farming and a public university is for teaching.” -Megan Larranaga, SOGA

“At UC Berkeley we learn about how our food system is inextricably tied to the climate crisis. As someone who studies and works on climate issues at UC Berkeley and understands these interconnections well, I call on the University to practice what it preaches — to live its commitment to climate leadership, food justice, and education for social betterment — by halting the development of the Gill Tract and embracing instead its cultivation as an outdoor laboratory and hub for engaged and active learning; as the physical expression of the just and sustainable future we are taught in class to stand up and fight for.” – Ophir Bruck, Fossil Free Cal
UAW 2865
“UAW 2865, the UC Student-Worker Union, calls upon the Regents of the University of California to cease development on the remaining farm land on the Gill Tract; and, UAW 2865 calls upon the Regents of the University of California to create a collaborative design process, that is inclusive and accessible to both students and community members, for possible alternative uses of the Gill Tract Farm; and UAW 2865 supports utilization of the currently undeveloped land on the Gill Tract Farm as a resource for the University and the community to better the quality of education, the prospects of research, and the University’s relationship with the local community through the continuation of agroecology and food justice projects currently supported by the Gill Tract Farm Coalition and Occupy the Farm” – UAW2865Gilltractsupport
