This current development project is only the most recent in a long history of the developing this public land. Community members have successfully resisted the development of the last northeast portion for the past decades, and have now formed an inspiring community to University partnership with the College of Natural Resources to develop a Community Farm on the 1.5 acre area of the north side known as “Area A”.
However, Capital Projects, the real estate branch of the University of California, is planning to develop most of the currently open land south of Village Creek within the next year. Students and community members who have been inspired by the opportunity for hand-on learning and community-driven research at the Community Farm are trying to save this historic farm land so that this project can expand to #all20acres.
